If you’re looking for a well-rounded epilator that is also good at removing facial hair then our recommendation is the Braun Facial Epilator (Braun Silk Epil 9), which with the help of an attachment can transform into a reliable facial epilator. A word of advice is to use epilators just for upper lip area, sideburns, chin, cheeks or even forehead. It is not advisable to use an epilator for your eyebrows despite the epilator using the same technique of tweezing. For your eyebrows stick to a tweezers/waxing because an epilator covers a large surface area and it is very difficult to pinpoint the epilator head in a small area such as the eyebrows even with the facial attachments that come with epilators.

The definitive guide to choosing an Epilator
What is an epilator?
An epilator is a hair removal device that works with the combined effort of many tweezers. These tweezers continuously pull hair out from the root and leave behind smooth skin. However as with any hair removal method, there are going to be some short hair left behind which depends on your epilator and the thickness of your hair. Some hair is just too thin to get trapped in the epilator’s tweezers in one try. As expected with any hair removal method, using an epilator may cause redness or irritation in the skin, which quickly disappears after a few minutes.
Often times we settle for shaving, waxing, tweezing, laser hair removal and chemical creams but neglect the expensive costs and time consumption associated with these options. These methods leave us with irritation, ingrown hair, skin bumps, razor burns and damaged skin very quickly. Using an epilator can significantly reduce all this pain and effort. Epilators have similar results to waxing without the skin damage and pain, because unlike waxing treatments the skin is not stretched during epilation, instead only the hair is quickly pulled from the root.
Epilator Tips? Is epilating painful?
As with any hair removal method, there is some level of pain involved. Epilating is no different however we noticed it to be less painful than waxing and while there is some temporary redness in the beginning, it usually went away within an hour. We would advise you to exfoliate your skin for best results and pull your skin when epilating in that area. Also hold up the epilator at a 90 degrees angle and always move it against the grain.
How does Epilator Work?
Truth is most epilators are well suited for legs. The only noticeable difference between epilators comes down to whether they can handle facial hair, hair under armpits, arms, bikini area and other sensitive areas. Your criteria for selecting an epilator should be based on whether you need a device to remove hair in these other regions and if you would like the additional features that come with each epilator.
Some factors you should consider before buying an epilator are the number of tweezers in an epilator, cost of the epilator, is a flashlight included or not, is the epilator cordless or corded, size of the epilator, recharge time and if the wet & dry feature is included. Choosing the best is a decision that depends on hair thickness and how often your hair grows.
Epilator Vs Waxing?
Perhaps the most comparable alternative to epilation in terms of results. Epilation and Waxing both result in removing hair from the root, which leaves your skin hair free for the longest period of time. However compared to epilation, waxing is much more painful, messy and expensive. Not to mention that waxing also pulls the skin during hair removal and this causes damage to the skin in the long term. Your skin can loose its tight appearance and look stretchy over time.
Epilator Vs Shaving?
Shaving is a good alternative to epilation, however the results only last about 1-3 days (depending on your hair quality) and cause razor bumps and other uncomfortable situations for your skin. Shaving is also harmful for your skin since you run a razor on your skin every day to maintain good results. This method is not cheap either, buying new shaving razors often can add up and can cost even more than laser hair removal.
Hair Removal Creams?
Less painful than shaving, however long term use can cause irritation. Not to mention that these chemicals are harmful to your otherwise healthy skin and the damage caused can be irreversible. Results only last 2-4 days depending on your hair growth. Hair Removal Creams can end up costing a lot in the long run since you need to keep buying new supplies after you run out.
Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is one of the most effective methods of permanent hair removal, however it is also the most expensive option in comparison to other options. There is a catch, more than one treatment is required to permanently remove hair from a region and the number of treatments required depends on your hair type and hair thickness.
